by | Feb 9, 2024 | Others

For centuries India has been the land of spirituality, and unlike other cultures and traditions, there is no one authority or dogma that defines the principles and practices to be followed. This means that preachers, godmen, or gurus, each with their own styles, lifestyles, and philosophies are the norm, creating a true free market of religion.

Such spiritual leaders have over the years built massive followings of devotees, while also accruing tremendous wealth, fame, and power in the process. That being said, they’ve achieved this by genuinely guiding millions on the spiritual path, while also preserving and taking the core tenets of spiritual wisdom to the masses.

In addition, much of the wealth possessed by spiritual leaders in the country isn’t owned or controlled by them, but rather by the organizations they’ve built. This wealth is often used for a wide range of charitable causes, ranging from, but not limited to running educational institutions, hospitals, and other noble causes.

In this article, we take a deep dive into the net worth and other financials of some of India’s top religious leaders and richest spiritual gurus, while also covering the sources of their wealth, other assets, charitable endeavors, and more.

Moreover, as mentioned many times above, the wealth accrued by these spiritual gurus and their organizations often make their way onto very noble causes.

The numbers you state and other information is not factual. Gurus like Sri Sri, Sadguru Jaggi, Amma are involved almost entirely in social service and doing great national and religious service.Assets of these ashrams originate from philanthropy and are great social assets.
The report is motivated to insult Hindu philonthrophy in their own country.

    Dear Ladies and Gentleman,
I find it very inapropriate that you publish a list of the most “influential spiritual leaders” of India. But you fill it with the names of businessmen, the most of them with clear tendencies to corruption and propensity to cheat. And some of them even convicted of crimes. I seriously question your ability to discern business from spirituality and your understanding of the real meaning of “Guru” or “spiritual leader”. You are propagating a mistaken and seriously dammaging immage of the most valuable and ancient indian spiritual tradition.
    My best regards
    Om, Tat, Sat
